Food Pantry and Clothing Closet

 

The Food Pantry and Clothing Closet offers groceries and clothing to needy families in DeKalb County.  The Food Pantry and Clothing Closet is open Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. R.E.A.C.H. serves 60-75 clients each week. Last year R.E.A.C.H. served over 1,500 client families and distributed over 72,000 pounds of food. 

 

Community Day

 

Community Day is scheduled for the last Saturday in July from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. of each year.  R.E.A.C.H. shares with the community by providing food, clothing, dental screenings, health screenings, career services, voter registration, and educational seminars.  R.E.A.C.H. also distributes backpacks filled with school supplies to increase school readiness for the children in our community.  In 2013, R.E.A.C.H. served 246 families, 91 students received free dental screening and 620 backpacks were given out.

These are our seasonal projects.  Coat and Blanket Project takes place in the month of October where the focus is to distribute coats and blankets to the needy.  Thanksgiving Turkey and Food Basket Project takes place in the month of November where Turkeys and Food Baskets are given out to eligible applicants only.  Community Toy Project takes place in the month of December.  All projects are on a first come first serve basis and must be accompanied by an application.

Every Georgia child deserves a great start...

First Steps- Dekalb County connects families to parenting resources and a wide range of community services that improve child and family well-being. We provide families with a localized community resource guide and connections to relevant resources and age-appropiate information. The service is for any pregnant woman or family with children ages 0-5 residing in Dekalb Country and is FREE!

Great Start Georgia of DeKalb County’s First Steps Parent Resource Directory provides expectant mothers and families with children, newborn to age five, with local referrals to maternal and child focused resources and relevant age-appropriate information in the following categories: 

  • Maternal Health
  • Newborn/Child Health
  • Home and Child Safety
  • Community and Family Safety
  • School Readiness
  • Family Economic Self-sufficiency
